BIOGRAPHY

The Rev. Gerardo Romo-Garcia

The Reverend Gerardo Romo has a Bachelors Degree in Classics and Humanities from the "Seminario Diocesano de Guadalajara." He also studied Philosophy and Theology in Mexico as a Roman Catholic and became an Episcopalian in the Diocese of Los Angeles.

After some years as a lay Episcopalian, he returned to Mexico, by invitation of the Bishop in Mexico City, to prepare for a Diploma in Anglicanism, and to follow the process for Holy Orders. He was ordained deacon on May 28, 2004, and priest on January 8th, 2005.

He worked as Chaplain at “Julian of Norwich Community Center," an outreach program of Christ Church, Mexico City and also did hospital chaplaincies, and ministered with the poor and needy. His bishop soon called him to be vicar of a congregation on the outskirts of Mexico City, where he also served at two public hospitals and an institution for terminally ill homeless people.

After a period of discernment, he was admitted, in England, to the Society of Saint Francis, a Franciscan Anglican Order. As a novice, he studied Franciscan Spirituality at the Franciscan International Study Center at Canterbury, Kent.

After four years he returned to the Diocese of Los Angeles.  He served as Vicar of St. Hilary's Episcopal Church, an Anglo congregation, at Hesperia, California, which became a dynamic, diverse and inclusive congregation; attendance doubled and Spanish language services were introduced. He also served on the Diocese of Los Angeles Commission on Ministry, and as Coordinator of Hispanic Ministry.
