st. luke's kate graham scholarship

April 2020

To all graduating high school students and currently enrolled college students who have previously received a scholarship.

Enclosed you will find a St. Luke’s Kate Graham Scholarship Fund application and a brief summary of the extra Kate Graham Award.

Each year, the Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to young adult members (age 17 – 24) of St. Luke’s Church who are attending, or will be attending, two or four year colleges or trade schools. Applicants are eligible to receive yearly grants for up to four years of continuous education.

The criteria for consideration for a scholarship grant consists of being a member “in good standing” of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.  “In good standing” means active and regular attendance at church, when you are at home during school breaks and the summer, as well as being a pledging member of time, treasure, and talent.  Your active involvement within the church, during the summer months, is taken very seriously, especially with helping out during the fair and other events.  Academic achievements and overall community service are additional important elements that will be considered in evaluating your application.

In awarding these grants, the committee considers any and all involvement made to your life at St. Luke’s.  The following are examples of “points” for service:  acolyte, choir member, assistant Sunday school teacher, coffee hour host, and volunteering at the annual Church Fair, Breakfast Buffets, and fund-raising dinners.

We invite you to apply, by filling out the attached application, which serves for both the general application and the Kate Graham Award.  Typed responses are preferred. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is May 31st.  Please return completed applications to the church office at 18 James Lane, East Hampton.

All applicants are required to complete at least five (5) hours of community service, within a year of receiving a scholarship grant, in the form of a signed document recording the name of the organization, date, volunteer activity, and hours worked

Example:  Community Soup Dinner, November 17, 2017, wait staff, 2 hours.

At least three (3) church related events must be part of your required five hours.

Scholarship grant checks will be mailed directly to your college tuition or bookstore accounts.
